Radicchio

"What is radicchio?" you might ask. Our answer: "we're not really sure yet." Our seed catalog tells us that radicchio is a slightly bitter lettuce-like plant that comes from the chicory family. Our radicchio forms a small head of pink and white leaves. The outer leaves are more bitter, but the inner leaves have a delicate tenderness and delicious flavor that balances the bitter. I'm guessing the Italians drench radicchio in a salad dressing. This is an ideal candidate for a food adventure, but enter at your own risk - not for the faint of palate.
